India-Japan Sign Maritime Security Pact to Boost Defence Cooperation
India and Japan signed the Maritime Security MOA to boost defence cooperation via enhanced Maritime Domain Awareness, information sharing, joint exercises, logistics, ship maintenance, Humanitarian Assistance Disaster Relief (HADR), and defence technology cooperation (UNICORN). This agreement will help in promoting FOIP, securing Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs), and using Japan’s technology with India’s ship-building capabilities under Make in India.

India to Lease 2 MQ-9B SeaGuardian Drones for Navy
The Indian government has finalised a lease contract of two MQ-9B Sea Guardian HALE UAVs with General Atomics worth ₹1,943 crore within a period of 30 months. This will bring the total number of drones on lease to four, allowing simultaneous monitoring of the eastern and western coastlines.

Indian Navy Set to Commission INS Mahendragiri
On 11 July 2026, the Indian Navy will commission INS Mahendragiri (F38), the sixth indigenous Project 17A stealth frigate. With over 75% indigenous content, advanced stealth, and multi-role combat capabilities, it strengthens India's maritime security, promotes defence self-reliance, and enhances the Navy's operational readiness in the Indo-Pacific.
