Pioneer of IceCube neutrino detector wins physics Nobel
2026 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Francis Halzen for his efforts that led to the construction of the IceCube Neutrino Observatory in Antarctica. IceCube uses 1 km3 of ice and thousands of optical sensors to detect the presence of Cherenkov radiation caused by interactions between ice and extremely rare neutrinos.
